International Scholar Orientation
The International Services and Engagement Office (ISEO) is excited to welcome you to UC San Diego! iOrientation is intended to help new international scholars understand how to maintain their visa status while at UC San Diego.
J-1 Scholar Orientation
Orientation is required for all J-1 scholars starting new programs and those transferring to UC San Diego. During the virtual orientation, an ISEO scholar advisor will review J-1 regulations and requirements, identify important aspects of your immigration documents, and provide other useful information for your time at UC San Diego. J-1 scholars must attend one orientation session to its entirety to meet this mandatory J-1 requirement. Attendance may occur any time from the point of receiving the DS-2019 form to shortly after arriving to the U.S. Orientation should be completed within a few weeks of the J-1 program start date. J-2 dependents are welcome to attend but are not required.
ISEO will send out an email one week prior to the orientation to those who are required to attend. In the email, we will provide the Zoom link as well as instructions on how to attend the online orientation. If you would like to attend a session but do not receive an email, please email ischolars@ucsd.edu to request the information.

Employment Based Scholar Orientation (H-1B, E-3, TN, O-1)
Orientation is required for all H-1B, E-3, TN, and O-1 scholars starting new programs and those transferring (porting) to UC San Diego. During the virtual orientation, an ISEO scholar advisor will review regulations and requirements, identify important aspects of your immigration documents, and provide other useful information for your time at UC San Diego. Scholars must attend one orientation session to its entirety to meet this mandatory requirement. Attendance may occur any time from when the request approved by USCIS to shortly after arriving to the U.S/UC San Diego. We recommend orientation be completed within the first three months of the start date of your status due to the critical information provided regarding maintenance of status, travel, etc. H-4 dependents are welcome to attend but are not required.
